We are Big Green Cherry, an alternative rock/experimental theater company based in the Washington-DC area. We are currently performing our new show, Planet of the Apes – The Rock Musical Parody.

Planet Of The Apes - The Rock Musical Parody is an uproarious adult adaptation of the 1968 classic science fiction movie in which apes and humans battle for control.  In this hilarious production, a young astronaut (Lt. Buzz Superstorm) travels into outer space to re-unite with his alien girlfriend, but crashes on an earth-like planet ruled by apes.  How will he find his true love?  What is the mystery of the monkey planet?

Over the years, the Planet of the Apes franchise has brought numerous thought-provoking and solemn science fiction adaptations to television and the big screen. In stark contrast, our bawdy, adult musical parody of the original 1968 movie skewers the genre with a humorous script and a catchy alternative rock soundtrack.

 

Our show is experimental. A one-person show…with four on-stage costume changes…and vintage cartoon visualizations…and a FULL ROCK BAND. We utilize portable lighting, sound effects and props to help the audience explore “theater of the mind”.

No elaborate gowns….no makeup...this is not Rogers & Hammerstein. We wear improvised costumes and play quirky rock music that will get your audience out of their chairs. Our 35-minute adaption is best described as “cerebrally-challenging, low-brow” humor.

Since, 2002, the Washington DC-based Big Green Cherry have pioneered the small stage rock musical format.  Planet of the Apes – The Rock Musical Parody is a campy and quirky 35-minute production featuring energetic original rock songs and out of this world laughter.
